Tandem App runs in your web browser, so there's nothing to download from an app store. You can still install it from the browser so it behaves like an app: it gets its own icon, opens in its own window without the browser's address bar, and can show an unread count on its icon. On an iPhone or iPad, installing it is also what allows notifications. This guide explains how on each kind of device.

On a computer or Android phone

In browsers that support installing web apps, such as Chrome and Edge on a computer and Chrome on Android, an Install the app button appears near the top of the sidebar.

  1. Sign in to your workspace in the browser.
  2. Click Install the app in the sidebar.
  3. Confirm in the box your browser shows.

Tandem App then opens in its own window and appears alongside your other apps: in the Start menu or Dock on a computer, or on the home screen on Android.

If you don't see the button, your browser may not offer installing, or the app may already be installed. You can usually also install from the browser's own menu.

On an iPhone or iPad

Safari on iPhone and iPad never offers an install button, so the sidebar shows a short how-to instead.

  1. Open your workspace in Safari and sign in.
  2. Tap the Share button.
  3. Tap Add to Home Screen, then Add.
  4. Open Tandem App from the new icon on your home screen and sign in there.

On iPhone and iPad, notifications only work once the app has been added to the home screen and opened from there.

Turning on notifications

Installing the app doesn't switch on notifications by itself. On each device:

  1. Open My account (your name at the bottom of the sidebar).
  2. Go to Notifications, and under On this device click Turn on notifications.
  3. Allow notifications when your device asks.

Notifications show the sender and the channel, never the message itself. Nothing pops up while you have the app open in front of you. See notifications and do not disturb to choose what you're told about.

The unread count on the icon

Once installed, the app shows your unread count on its icon, on devices that support badges. It updates as you read conversations.

If you'd rather not

Click Not now under the install button and it won't be offered again in that browser. Everything works the same in an ordinary browser tab; installing is just more convenient.

Signing in on a new device

Go to your workspace's own address, for example your-company.thetandem.app. If you've forgotten it, go to sign in and use Email me my workspaces under Forgotten the address? We'll email you a list of the workspaces your email address can sign in to. If you've turned on two-step sign-in, have your authenticator app ready.
