Tandem App puts your team's chat, tasks and files in one place. Each company gets its own workspace at its own address, and everything happens inside channels. This guide takes you from signing up to a workspace your team can start using the same day.
Step 1: create your workspace
- Go to sign up.
- Enter your company or team name and choose a workspace address, for example
your-company.thetandem.app. Use lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens. - Add your name, your work email and a password of at least 10 characters.
- Confirm your email using the link we send you. Nothing is created until you do.
New workspaces start on the Free plan: up to 3 users and 10 GB of storage, with every feature. No card is needed. You are the workspace's owner.
Step 2: find your way around
The sidebar on the left is where everything starts:
- Home — your channels, your open tasks and a short getting-started list.
- Channels and Direct messages — your conversations. Unread ones stand out.
- Threads, Saved and later and Notifications — things that need your attention.
- Search — messages, tasks and files.
- Admin dashboard and Apps and workflows — for owners and admins.
Your name at the bottom of the sidebar opens My account, where you set your photo, password, notifications and status.
Step 3: secure your account
Owners and admins must turn on two-step sign-in before they can open the admin pages. Do it now: it takes two minutes with an authenticator app on your phone.
Step 4: set up channels
Your workspace comes with a public #general channel for everyone. Add a few more for your teams, projects or clients, such as #marketing or #website-relaunch. Owners and admins create channels from All channels. Each channel has four tabs:
- Chat — the conversation, with threads, reactions and polls.
- Tasks — a board and list of the channel's work.
- Docs — the channel's files, in folders.
- People — who is in the channel and what they can do.
See public and private channels for which kind to choose.
Step 5: invite your team
Invite colleagues as members and clients as guests. Each person gets an email link and joins when they accept. The inviting your team guide walks through it.
A few habits that help
- Reply in threads to keep the main conversation readable.
- Turn requests into tasks with Make a task from the message's ⋯ menu.
- Press Ctrl/⌘ + K to jump to any channel or person.
- Install Tandem App from your browser so it opens like an app and can send notifications.
